Today I found a nice little application in the iTunes app store which allows you to test your hearing straight from an iPhone or iPod touch and it seems to work pretty well. Currently the app is available for free (it was paid for very recently) and is called uHear. I thought I would post about this because as a music producer, I think the results can be applied when creating mix downs and it is nice to know how well your ears are functioning anyway.
The app is split up into 3 sections as listed below.

This post was originally posted on our other site, Remix Comps but seemed like a good post to place on Producing Beats too.
SoundCloud has only been around for a short time (Since 2007) but has become one of the best known ways of distributing both a streamable and downloadable version of your tracks. Thanks to a few of SoundCloud's features it makes the site a good choice for those of you who want to run your own remix contest.
We are regularly seeing remix contest organizers using SoundCloud services as the foundation of running their remix contest. This post is to give people an idea of what SoundCloud can offer to help run a remix contest and to also a review of SoundCloud's services when using it to run a remix contest.

This list is an additional extra to go along with our post called 'Choosing DAW Software That is Right for You' which is good to read if you are going to be choosing one of these pieces of software. All of these DAWs are a good choice which can be used to create an entire song. This list should help people who are choosing their first piece of DAW software and give a good idea on the vast array of DAW products that are on offer.
As I stated in that previous post, I use the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) term loosely to mean any piece of software which could be used to edit and record a track from start to finish so there might be software on here which whether it is a DAW or not is up for discussion, but all software listed below has and can be been used to produce professional sounding tracks.

DAW is one of these terms which is debatable as to whether a piece of software is a DAW or not. For example Propellerhead Reason can edit and playback audio but cannot record live audio in (although it can record MIDI-In data for a MIDI controller). Is this still a DAW? some would say yes others wouldn't. In this guide and when I say DAW, what I mean is the main piece of software you use to make and sequence your music.
